We are pleased to announce that Ontario's Ministry of Children and Youth Services has officially released the Formal Customary Care - A Practice Guide to Principles, Processes and Best Practices.

In the guideline, you will find:

  • Introduction to Customary Care
  • Step by step guide to using formal customary care
  • Sample agreements, protocols, letters of notification
  • and etc.

It was an amazing experience to work with various communities, Child and Family Services agencies and children and their families in the creation of this guideline.  We hope that, with this guide, we can work to keep children close to their families.

"This is what customary care means to me" - For the incredible artwork by First Nation youth as part of a contest for the development of this document.

Customary Care

In December 2011 the Ministry of Children and Youth Services commissioned Lough Barnes Consulting Group (formerly, Barnes Management Group) to undertake the development of a Formal Customary Care Process Guideline.

We are excited to introduce the Customary Care website where you can find helpful resources, registration form to the Orientation Sessions and amazing artworks by the children.
